Overview - Plantar Fasciitis is common type of heel pain that typically travels along the inside of the foot. The Plantar Fascia is a thick band of tissue that starts in the heel and extends to the toes.
Symptoms - Sharp Pain is located on the inside of the heel and can project along the bottom of the foot towards the toes. Patients with Plantar Fasciitis typically complain of heel pain when initially putting weight on their feet after getting out of bed in the morning. The problem often improves after warming up or walking.
Cause - Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the fascia along the bottom of the foot is stretched hard, resulting in small tears.
- Activities involving repetitive tension overload on the plantar fascia(squatting)
- Poor foot biomechanics/flat feet/overpronation
- Obesity
- Jobs that require long periods of standing(Factory workers, teachers)
- Persons 40 to 60 years of age are most at risk
