Overview – Piriformis syndrome patients often complain of buttock and leg pain with no obvious injury.
Symptoms – Deep buttocks pain with referral down the side/back of the thigh.
Cause – Through trauma or overuse, the sciatic nerve can become compressed by the piriformis muscle, which runs roughly perpendicular. In approximately 15% of the population, the piriformis runs directly through the piriformis muscle compounding the situation.
Treatment options – Myofascial release, Stretching, therapy modalities, medication, rehabilitation exercises
