Overview - Lumbar Facet joints are located on either side of the spine in the lower back. Arthritis, Trauma, postural stress, and repetative activities can cause the facets to become painfully fixated. The exact mechanism of facet syndrome is not clear, however it is particularly responsive to manipulation.
Symptoms - Localized lower back pain with some hip/buttock or leg pain above the knee, reduced range of motion, muscle and joint tenderness
Cause - sudden misjudged movement, repeated posture (phone, computer), accidents, improper body mechanics, chronic arthritis
Treatment options - Spinal manipulative therapy/mobilization, posture/ergonomic instruction, prescribed exercise/stretches, interferential therapy, massage therapy, medication, facet injections
