Overview - Whiplash occurs when the head and neck are suddenly accelerated or decelerated (forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck). This is a common trauma during rear-end vehicle accidents. Whiplash can also result from sports accidents, and falls. The term "Whiplash-Associated Disorders" or WAD is used to describe the signs and syptoms resulting from this type of injury.
Symptoms - Pain/stiffness in the neck and spine, persistent headache, nausea, decreased range of motion, vertigo, numbness and tingling, weakness
* Some patients report a delay of symptoms, several days after the accident
Cause - motor vehicle accidents, sports injury
