Falafels are a traditional Middle Eastern food made from chickpeas. They are high in protein and fibre. Although falafels are traditionally fried, they can be baked to reduce the harmful effects of fried oils. They make a great addition to a salad or can be eaten as a side.
Baking Instructions:
- Mix all the dry ingredients together first in a bowl. Then add the oil and water. Gently blend with a hand blender until you have a thick chunky paste. Do not over blend or your falafel will turn into Hummus.
- Using two spoons dole out the mixture onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper or foil (this is similar to making cookies). This recipe should make around 12 falafels.
- Bake in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about ½ hour or until golden brown. Convection ovens work best.
