Cervical Joint Dysfunction

Summary

   Joint dysfunction, commonly presenting as joint pain or discomfort, can occur in joints of the cervical spine(neck).  The pain can refer from the cartilaginous tissues linking the bones or associated structures.  

Joint dysfunction is also known as: Vertebral subluxation complex, MSK, Joint fixation, Facet syndrome.
 

Signs and Symptoms

  • Joint pain/discomfort in the neck and upper back
  • Swelling and redness
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Myofascial tender spots
 

Treatment

  • Chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy is recommended for the treatment of patients with cervical joint dysfunction
  • Massage therapy
  • Rehab exercises, home instruction, and lifestyle changes
  • Ergonomic evaluation for home and work
  • Co-management with medical doctor
